Interior Design Spotlight: Lighting Clusters
This year’s interior design trends are all about balancing one-of-a-kind pieces with a soft and subtle space. My favorite way to implement this trend is incorporating lighting clusters to unique spaces. From dining rooms to stairwells, light clusters are a sure way to make a serious statement in any space.
Why We Love Them
Lighting clusters are a group of similar lighting fixtures positioned closely together. What I love most about this trend is that it’s almost impossible to accomplish the same look twice.
The best lighting clusters are each created distinctly for their space. Each piece of the grouping is custom hung at varying heights and locations creating a one-of-a-kind lighting piece. The versatility of lighting clusters create so many opportunities to incorporate this look into any space, which is another reason I use this trend as often as possible.
Linear Lighting
In Orange County California, where we do a majority of our interior design work, people are building larger homes which means larger rooms and larger furniture pieces. These larger spaces create a common problem for us, we have to finding the right light fixtures to span very long dining tables, Thankfully our favorite interior design trend (lighting clusters, obviously) solves this problem.
Cascading Light Clusters
While lighting clusters look amazing stretching down dining tables or kitchen islands, I personally can’t get enough of pendants cascading down a stairwell. Seeing the angles of each pendant and how they interact with each other brings a new dynamic to the space's interior design, creating a modern twist on a traditional lighting approach.
P.S. Stay tuned, we are installing a job this summer where we have gorgeous lights extending down a 3 story stairwell and I am giddy just thinking about it! But for now, we'll just have to gush over a few more interior design inspiration images.
Bright Bathroom Balance
Bathrooms can get a little monotonous so we are always looking for ways to jazz up these spaces. Lighting clusters are a great way to add a focal point in a bathroom that doesn’t have a freestanding tub or shower as the center of attention.
With a longer grouping of light clusters, you can perfectly balance an offset mirror. Obsessed in an understatement for how I feel about the photo below.
Lighting clusters don’t always have to be done with pendants. You can use wall sconces to create interest on a wall or ceiling. This example below is using wall sconces to create balance and interest on a vanity wall. (Not to mention, wall sconces at eye level create the best lighting for putting on makeup.)
Anywhere Your Heart Desires
Lighting is often a design element that is either overlooked, or not given as much attention as it should get. Lighting clusters help us use lighting to create soft lightscapes and add interest to a space. Think of lighting clusters as the art on your wall, the ceiling or waterfalling down your stairwell, and don’t let anyone limit your cluster creativity.
